Balthasar

Average Prices: 17-22 €

In 1999. the first garlic restaurant, called Balthasar was opened on the Town Hall Square in the center of old Tallinn. Because of its unique menu and interior the Balthasar soon gained popularity.
The wooden interior that is fit to medieval buildings and very successful restoration give a sense of aristocratic aura. The windows open beautiful view to the Town Hall. The main component in the menu is garlic. You can choose between different tastes of garlic beginning with appetizers up to desserts.

The restaurant was named after a notorious writer and chronicler, Balthasar Russow, who wrote his masterpiece “Chronicle of Livonia”, while residing in these very rooms. The Chronicle of Livonia describes the life `of` and `in` Estonia between the 12-th and 16-th century.  The building of Town-Hall Apothecary, which was first mentioned in 1422 is unique, because the apothecary opened here during the 15-th century is still in business today making it the oldest pharmacy in Europee.

Welcome to the Balthasar!
